Remove birthmarks

A mole (nevus naevocellularis) is a visible, usually pigmented skin condition. It consists of an increase in pigment-forming cells in the skin, also known as melanocytes or nevus cells. The color and shape may differ, depending on these pigment-forming cells. Birthmarks are usually benign but can become restless (atypical) or malignant. A benign mole is regular in color and shape, while a malignant mole is often erratic, asymmetric, and irregular in color.

The treatment

During the discussion about the treatment, your wishes will be discussed in detail. You will then receive a detailed explanation of the procedure and the expectations of the cosmetic result. The doctor will mark the mole before surgery, taking into account the so-called skin lines. These are lines in which the skin folds and will lead to a less noticeable scar. Especially when it comes to removing birthmarks on the face, it is very important to achieve the most aesthetic result possible. That's what Van Lennep Kliniek is for! The procedure takes place under a local anaesthetic. You have no pain during the procedure. The procedure takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the location and size of the mole. After removing the mole, the wound is sutured and an adhesive plaster is applied.

De ingreep vindt plaats onder een lokale verdoving. U heeft geen pijn tijdens de ingreep. De ingreep duurt ongeveer 15 tot 30 minuten, afhankelijk van de plaats en grootte van de moedervlek. Na het verwijderen van de moedervlek wordt de wond gehecht en komt er een hechtpleister op.

Aftercare

After the procedure, you can go home immediately. A follow-up appointment will be made to remove the stitches (after 1 week in the face and after 2 weeks on the body). Rest the operated part of the body until the stitches have been removed to stimulate the best possible healing. Also protect the scar from the sun with a sun block 50 or higher for 1 year.
