Acne scars occur after skin damage or inflammation. Wound healing is disrupted and small pits form in the skin; acne scars. In some cases, scars can irritate and turn red. These scars are slightly higher on the skin and sometimes cause itching.

Acne scars can be divided into three types:

1. Icepick scars: 1-2 mm large scars reaching deep into the skin

Treatment options for acne scars

Van Lennep Clinic offers several treatment options for reducing scars, both in the clinics in The Hague and Oegstgeest. These are:

Laser therapy acne scars
By laser cutting with a fractional laser the production of new and stronger connective tissue is stimulated. This will reduce the scar tissue caused by acne and make way for a healthier skin structure. Lasering scars with the fractional laser assumes at least 4 to 6 treatments. Your therapist will provide you with home advice.
Hyaluronic acid injectables
Facial grooves and pits in acne scars can be filled with injectables. Hyaluronic acid is a safe, naturally occurring substance that has virtually no side effects. It fills the grooves neatly and naturally, from the inside out. The skin becomes visibly smoother.

Microneedling for acne scars
Microneedling with the Enterpen also stimulates the production of new and stronger connective tissue. Instead of laser light, tiny needles stimulate the skin to produce new tissue, which will reduce acne scars. The treatment of scars with the Enterpen is based on at least 4 to 6 treatments. Your therapist will then provide you with home advice.

Peeling for acne scars
Acne scars on the face can be made less visible by peeling. By using special acids, the skin structure is improved and made more even, so that scars are reduced and will be less noticeable. For the treatment of acne scarring with peels is assumed to require at least 4 to 6 treatments. Your therapist will then provide you with home advice. The treatment plan varies from person to person and is fully tailored to you.
Zo Medical/ Zo Skin Health
Dermatologist Zein Obagi's products are highly effective in creating healthy skin. If you suffer from acne scars, the skin tone is also slightly red and blemishes may occur. The ZO Medical and ZO Skin Health products ensure optimal skin renewal.
