When to choose Botox

Certain signs of aging, such as wrinkles or fine lines, can be caused by the contraction of the muscles in the face, or our facial expressions. The injectable botulinum toxin, also known as Botox, temporarily reduces excessive muscle activity, giving lines time to unfold and become less visible.

In addition, the treatment provides some relief in the form of a relaxed feeling. It can also help with migraines or tension headaches. Another indication is excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), where botox is injected into the sweat glands of the armpits. This results in a reduction in perspiration and usually ensures completely dry armpits.

The treatment

At Van Lennep Kliniek, we attach great importance to an intake interview, so that we can properly discuss your wishes and options. Before the botox treatment is performed, we first draw up a treatment plan. The treatment itself takes about 5 - 15 minutes, depending on the number of areas (zones) to be treated. The doctor uses the finest needle to inject the botox into the muscle. The advantage of this is that it is an almost painless treatment, which you can compare to epilating a hair. Read here more about our painless botox method.

Optimal results after two weeks

After the botox has been injected, the end result is not immediately visible. After about a week, the first effects will begin to be visible and after two weeks, the end result will be reached and the muscle will be optimally blocked. That is when we carry out an audit. Botox ensures that the muscle relaxes and gives the skin a relaxed character. This gives wrinkles the chance to disappear or become less visible. On average, the effect of the Botox treatment is visible for three to six months. This varies from person to person. After this period, you can repeat the treatment. Are you undergoing a botox treatment for excessive sweating or teeth grinding? Then the effect can even remain visible for up to 8 months.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about the botox treatment
Does botox treatment hurt?
Botox is injected into the skin with very small needles. Most people describe it as small pinpricks and don't experience it as painful. It is a treatment that only takes a few minutes. It is a treatment that has been used for more than 30 years and has proven to be very safe. Provided that the advice and regulations are followed properly, it is a treatment with very little risk of unwanted side effects.
Can I go to work immediately after the treatment?
A botox treatment generally has no visible side effects. Occasionally, it is possible that a small blue spot occurs that disappears after a few days. This blue spot can of course be camouflaged with makeup.
What is the long-term effect?
In the longer term, botulinum toxin can ensure that the movement in the treated areas can remain soft. This is because the zones are not used excessively actively for a long period of time. It is also possible that you have lost the use of various muscles. An example of this is the frown wrinkle treatment. It is possible that you will frown a lot less after the Botox treatment because you are no longer used to it.
Why isn't botox dangerous?
Botox is a brand name, just like Azzalure or Bocouture. All of these brands contain Botulinum Toxin. Botulinum toxin is a protein complex that is secreted by the Botulism bacteria. Cosmetic botox is a purified toxin and has first been extensively tested in a laboratory. This special substance works very selectively on the nerve endings, right where it is injected. Because it only works locally, botulinum toxin is very suitable for medical and cosmetic applications. A muscle that has been injected with botulinum toxin will contract less strongly for a number of months. After the partial blockade of the muscle, the strength of the muscle fully recovers. The result is therefore completely reversible.

Safe medicine
Since the 1970s, the use of botox has been used as medicine by ophthalmologists and neurologists. They use the drug to relax spastic muscles very accurately without side effects. This can be useful for a crooked neck or a spastic leg. In addition, much higher doses are used than for cosmetic purposes. For over 30 years, botulinum toxin has been used on a much larger scale for medical cosmetic purposes.
When is botox not suitable?
In general, a Botox treatment is feasible in most situations. The treatment will not be performed only in case of pregnancy or certain rare muscle diseases. This will also be asked about in the intake interview.
What is the botox price per zone?

Is there 1 type of botox?
The name Botox is a brand name. The active substance of the injectable is called botulinum toxin. Other brands of botulinum toxin include Dysport, Azzalure, Bocouture, and Vistabel. Van Lennep Kliniek only uses the A-brands.
Botox for wrinkles
Some people unwittingly have a gruff expression on their faces. This can be caused by wrinkles. Wrinkles caused by excessive muscle tension can be treated and prevented well with Botox:

• Frown wrinkles
• Crow's feet
• Forehead wrinkles
•Upper lip and drooping corners of the mouth

Botox wrinkles? First, an intake
The doctor or consultant will start with an intake interview. During the intake, your entire face will be examined, not just the wrinkles that bother you. Sometimes it is advisable to treat multiple areas of the face. In other cases, the result can be even better by adding extra volume. The cosmetic doctor will inform you extensively and honestly about the various (combination) options and any Botox offers. A treatment plan will then be made. A combination of various skin-improving treatments, such as Botox and fillers, is also possible.

More information about the first consultation.

Painless Botox treatments, anaesthetic possible
You can come to us for a painless Botox treatment. The doctors are very experienced and place the injections with a gentle hand. The Botox injections are performed with a tiny fine needle and are almost painless. An anaesthetic is often not necessary, but possible. A very small amount will be administered at an even distance. The doctor may ask you to look angry-frowning and very surprised a few times. For example, when treating wrinkles on the forehead.

After treatment
The doctors will ensure that you can get back to business as usual after treatment in the clinic. A nice mineral makeup will neatly cover up any redness. After about a week, the full result of the treatment will be visible. After about two weeks, you will come back to the doctor for a check-up and to see if the desired end result has been achieved. The treatment will last approximately 3-4 months and is safe to repeat.
After applying Botox more often, you can eventually expect a repeat treatment between 5 to 9 months.
Botox for migraines
Many people suffer from tension headaches or (chronic) migraines. It is very difficult to determine the exact cause of most types of headache. However, there are indications that increased tension in certain muscles may play a role. Botulinum Toxin has been shown to relieve headaches and also reduce the frequency of headaches. This makes the injectable an effective remedy in treating various forms of migraine caused by increased muscle tension.

The doctor will give a number of pricks in the (frown) muscle, making it less strong. You will hardly feel these stings. To tailor the treatment, the doctor will ask you to keep a diary where you can indicate what effect the treatment has on the headache. The treatment is not experienced as painful. The effect of the treatment is always temporary (3 to 6 months).
Botox for excessive sweating
Many people suffer from excessive sweating or sweating. Both men and women can face this. Armpits, hands, but also the face, show increased sweat production, sometimes accompanied by an annoying smell. This is very annoying and can have a significant impact on social life. The medical term for excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis. Some health insurances reimburse you for this Botox medical treatment for sweating.

Hyperhidrosis? Botox dry!

The cause of the excessive perspiration is difficult to determine. Fortunately, a botox armpit treatment works well. During an armpit treatment, small amounts of Botox are injected. This is because botulinum toxin ensures that excessive sweat production is reduced by approximately 95%, without affecting regular perspiration elsewhere on the body. The normal sweat production for the excretion of waste remains intact. The treatment is also known as BotoxDry.

The treatment

During the hyperhidrosis treatment, the doctor will place fine injections. These injections are very superficial but can be a bit sensitive. To do this, the skin can be lightly anesthetized with a cream, but experience shows that most patients are not much affected by the treatments. The result can be assessed within one month. After 2 weeks to a month, the optimal result will be noticed and the production of sweat will be maximally reduced. Each person experiences a different duration of action. The averages range between 6 and 12 months. After that period, you can simply repeat the treatment.
Botox gummy smile
Does your upper lip pull just a little too far up while laughing? Do you have asymmetric lips? An innocent but often annoying problem. The upper lip lifting muscle is probably working just a little too hard, causing you to suffer from a so-called gummy smile.

A few small punctures in the muscle, just next to the nose, temporarily weaken, so that the lip will tighten less. The effect of Botox is temporary and the effect will wear off after about 8 months. After that period, you can apply the Botox gummy smile treatment again.Stop by for a Botox treatment at the clinic in The Hague or
Botox lips
Botox is not a filler. Sometimes people ask for Botox lips, so that's not possible. However, it can be combined with fillers to achieve the most beautiful, natural result. Are you interested in a lip augmentation? Then choose a lip filler.
Make the corners of the mouth less drooping
Botox relaxes the muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down. By adding a small amount of botox, the corners of the mouth can be lifted.
