Warts and fibroids

• Verruca vulgaris: skin-colored, flat or hemispherical warts with a keratinized surface. The size ranges from less than a millimeter to greater than one centimeter. Often located on the fingers, backs of the hands, elbows and knees.

• Verrucae plantares: keratinized warts under the soles of the feet with a central depression. Black dots are characteristic of these warts.

• Butcher's warts: cauliflower-like lesions on the backs of the hands, fingers, around the nails, and in the palms.

• Age warts: also known as verruca seborrhoica, slightly raised spots initially yellow and later brown to black. Common among people over 50 with preferred locations on the face, chest, abdomen, and back.

• Fibromes/skin warts: also known as verruca filiformis, are soft benign skin bulges in the shape of a bump or stalk. The skin-colored or light brown growths can occur anywhere on the body. Preferred locations, however, are the neck, armpits, under the breasts and in the groin.
