Melasma or pregnancy mask

Do you have brown discolorations, pigmentation on the face, décolleté, poorer or legs that darken just in spring or summer? You may have melasma, a form of hyperpigmentation.

Wat is melasma?

What is melasma?

Melasma is a skin pigmentation problem caused by the influence of UV light, such as the sun or tanning bed. Hormones can also cause the pigment spots. It is therefore called a “pregnancy mask”. Melasma is mainly found in women and causes brown or grey discolouration. The spots mainly occur on the face, cheeks and chin. Every now and then, we also see women with discolorations on the arms, legs and décolleté. Women with dark skin have an increased risk of melasma as more active pigment cells are present.

Melasma treatment

If melasma is caused by hormones (for example after pregnancy), the spots can fade away on their own over time. However, this can take several years. The most important melasma treatment starts at home. By using a good sunscreen, even in winter, you prevent a worsening of the pigment spots. In the clinic, we offer various types of melasma treatments.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about treating melasma
Laser therapy for melasma
Laser treatment is not recommended for melasma or pregnancy masks.
Melasma peeling
The peeling is very suitable for superficial pigment spots. The peeling is performed by our skin therapist. First of all, she will have an intake where she will take a good look at the face and explain the treatment.

The peeling will stimulate a renewal of the epidermis. The old skin will peel, peel off and greatly reduce the blemishes. The medical peeling is sometimes reimbursed by the supplementary insurance. You can check this in your insurance policy.
Zo Medical products
The skintherapist will study the overall condition of the skin and choose an appropriate treatment. For melasma, the ZO 3 Step peeling offers amazing results.
Melasma camouflage or pregnancy mask
You can easily disguise the annoying spots on the face with makeup. Natural make-up, based on minerals, provides a soft feel, nourishes the skin and lets it breathe. In addition, the makeup products contain a sunscreen; indispensable for a pregnancy mask or melasma. Feel free to drop by the clinic. The skin therapist will be happy to introduce you to the products, help you choose the right color and tell you more about applying makeup correctly.
