Client Instructions for and aftercare removal of birthmark
If you have surgery to remove a mole, we will do everything we can to make the treatment run as smoothly as possible. In addition, we also need your cooperation! Below are a number of instructions. By following the instructions, the treatment is more comfortable for you, recovery is faster and promotes optimal end results. That is why it is important that you read the instructions below carefully and follow them carefully.
The day of the treatment
Pictures are taken first. Remove any makeup beforehand.
During treatment
The plastic surgeon will mark the mole before surgery, taking into account the so-called skin lines. These are lines in which the skin folds and will lead to a less noticeable scar. The procedure takes place under a local anaesthetic. You have no pain during the procedure. The procedure takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the location and size of the mole, and the number of moles you have removed. After removing the mole, the wound is sutured and an adhesive plaster is applied. After the procedure, you can go home immediately. In the beginning, there may be some swelling or bruising; this will disappear on its own within a few days. If the wound bleeds, it is recommended to print it off for at least 10 minutes.
After treatment
Rest the operated part of the body until the stitches have been removed to stimulate the best possible healing. After removing the stitches, you can start massaging the scar for best results. Also protect the scar from the sun with a sunblock 50 or higher for 1 year.
Audit
A follow-up appointment will be made to remove the stitches (after 1 week in the face and after 2 weeks on the body).
Pain relief
Pain relief is usually not necessary, but if you want to use a painkiller before or after treatment, you can do so; you can take paracetamol 500 mg, a maximum of 6 tablets per 24 hours.
Work and sports
You may be able to work again one day after the treatment; you can exercise again after 2 weeks.
Swelling
After the treatment, there may be minor bruising (bruising) and some swelling. These disappear on their own. You can use cold compresses (cold packs) against swelling. If the wound bleeds, it is recommended to print it off for at least 10 minutes.
