Cosmetic trends are constantly evolving, and one of the latest sensations in the world of beauty is the hybrid filler. This innovative approach uses the expertise of experienced cosmetic doctors to not only achieve aesthetically pleasing results, but also to create a tailored mix of two different injectables that perfectly suit the client's needs.
In Wies Verbeek's recent interview with our cosmetic doctor Ludy Holst, you'll discover how the hybrid filler works and what you can achieve with it.
Ludy: “Nowadays, mixing different types of fillers is popular, and I'm a big believer in this approach. We also call them hybrid fillers. This treatment combines collagen-stimulating injectables, such as Sculptra and Radiesse, with a hyaluronic acid filler. The big advantage of this is that you achieve two goals at the same time. Hyaluronic acid provides immediate visible results. It fills and provides support to the skin, which is particularly attractive for people who want to see rapid improvements. On the other hand, the collagen-stimulating injectable stimulates collagen production, which becomes noticeable after 4-6 weeks.”
So, do collagen stimulating injectables do anything different than traditional fillers?
“Yes, there is a difference between a hyaluronic acid filler such as Belotero, Juvederm and Restylane, and a collagen-stimulating injectable such as Radiesse and Sculptra. Hyaluronic acid acts as a “filler” that provides extra volume where it's needed and attracts moisture, making the skin look fuller. With a collagen-stimulating injectable, the active substance is injected deep into the skin, where it stimulates its own collagen production. It usually takes 4-6 weeks before the effect becomes visible, and can last up to two years. Unlike hyaluronic acid, which breaks down over time, collagen stimulation provides lasting results. These substances can even be mixed thanks to a special connector. While ready-to-use hybrid fillers such as HarmonyCA are available, self-mixing offers the possibility to adjust the dosage and achieve multiple effects in one treatment. I've been using this technique for over a year now, and the results are really beautiful. For those who aren't ready for traditional fillers, skin boosters like Profhilo can also be mixed with collagen boosters.”
Can you tell us what skin boosters are exactly?
“Skin boosters are hyaluronic acids that are injected into the top layer of the skin with small punctures to hydrate the skin from within and improve overall skin condition. This treatment uses pure hyaluronic acid, whether or not enriched with active ingredients such as antioxidants and peptides. Some examples of skin boosters include Profhilo, Juvederm Volite, Belotero Revive, and the Polyneclotide Art Fill. The goal is to encourage the skin to improve itself.”
