At the Van Lennep Clinic, I regularly get people who suddenly worry about their sagging skin due to collagen loss. “Ludy”, they ask me, “do I still have enough collagen for my age?” It's good that they're thinking about it. Collagen is the basic molecule for connective tissue that is responsible for skin firmness and elasticity. When the amount of collagen decreases, we get wrinkles sooner. Finer, but also deeper lines. And certain other body parts, such as the neck, hands, buttocks and stomach, also become weaker...
So we have to take care of our skin. Not only does aging play a role in reducing collagen production, but also a person's lifestyle. Someone who smokes breaks down more quickly. With someone who spends a lot of time in the sun, too. UV protection is necessary, as is exercise, healthy eating with lots of antioxidants and drinking enough water.
Of course, Van Lennep Kliniek can help prevent the aging process. When asked which treatment is best for skin tightening, I cannot immediately give an unambiguous answer. During the first consultation, photos of the face and/or body are taken, then a consultant first discusses the options and associated costs in general. As a cosmetic doctor, I will then discuss more specifically what is most appropriate for the client at that moment. In other words, what would be the best thing anyone could do to make the biggest difference in their appearance as quickly as possible? It is customized.
To give you an idea, I will highlight a few examples of collagen stimulating treatments.
If you want to address facial wrinkles, you can, for example, opt for injectables such as botox, skin boosters, hyaluronic acid fillers or polylactic acid injections (collagen stimulation with Sculptra, or Lanluma). The polylactic acid that is injected stimulates collagen formation in the skin. Restylane, the American Juvederm or Belotero from a German family business, are also safe fillers based on hyaluronic acid, which is very similar to the hyaluronic acid found in our own body, and lift sagging skin. I also recommend injectables for the hands and neck, because they provide skin improvement with more volume. Additional skin-improving injectable treatments include Prohilo and Sunekos, both great methods of skin improvement with injections.
For those who don't like needles, there are of course alternatives, such as a connective tissue massage in the salon. Here, collagen is stimulated through a thorough manual treatment by a specially trained skin therapist. The skin really gets a lift. A connective tissue massage is an excellent way to improve skin condition and is recommended as a spa. The treatment is suitable for the face, neck, cleavage, but also for the legs.
The painless and safe Clearlift Laser Treatment is very popular and causes the production of new collagen, resulting in tight, rejuvenated skin. This special laser beam provides a laser facelift without damaging the skin. Wrinkles fade and imperfections disappear. The Clearlift laser treatment offers an excellent alternative to Botox whether Fillers or to maintain these treatments. A Clearlift laser treatment is suitable for the face, neck, décolleté and now also for the lips. And for every skin all year round, even in summer!
